Data Engineer

About the Role As a Data Engineer in the RocketDevs network, you'll be matched to client projects where you'll own the design, build, and operation of real-world data infrastructure. Client projects range from building near-real-time analytics pipelines processing millions of events per day, to designing scalable data warehouses for fast-growing SaaS products, to integrating complex multi-source data systems for data-driven decision making at scale. Must Have High technical skills in: Strong Python proficiency or another data-focused language (e.g., Scala, Java). Solid SQL and hands-on experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or equivalent) Experience designing and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines in production environments Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB, or equivalent) Familiarity with at least one major data warehousing platform (BigQuery, Snowflake, or Redshift) Experience with distributed processing tools (Apache Spark, Kafka, Flink, or equivalent) Comfort with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) Strong Git/GitHub discipline; experience with CI/CD pipelines and containerisation (Docker) Understanding of data modelling, schema design, and data governance principles A deployed project is required: You must be able to share at least one production data system architecture diagram (pipeline, warehouse, streaming application, or equivalent) that: Was used by real users or downstream consumers. Can be explained clearly: What problem it solved and the scale it handled. Nice to Have Orchestration tools: Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster Real-time streaming architecture experience Data observability and monitoring tools (Monte Carlo, Great Expectations, etc.) Exposure to AI/ML pipelines or feature engineering workflows Vector databases or embeddings for AI-powered applications dbt for data transformation Cloud cost optimisation and query performance tuning Data visualisation tools: Tableau, Power BI, Looker Our Hiring Process We built this process to be the most signal-rich, fairest, and transparent vetting experience you'll encounter.
